How many people go to prison when companies go into liquidation or matters are pursued by the Insolvency Service following insolvency proceedings, or in some cases, companies are dissolved and the Insolvency Service come in and investigates?

Well, interesting figures come in for the calendar year 2024. That’s January to December 2024, coming from a Freedom of Information Act 2000 request that we have made and have been provided with such data.

How many people go to prison following prosecution by the Insolvency Service

Immediate Imprisonment

Immediate imprisonment, in other words, people who have been prosecuted by the Insolvency Service, which is an agency within the Department of Business and Trade in 2024, it would appear from the information provided by our Freedom and Information act request, that immediate imprisonment across the entire year was given to 40 individuals.

Suspended Imprisonment

Now, there were also people who received criminal convictions who were sentenced to go to prison, but their imprisonment or terms of imprisonment was a suspended sentence.

In 2024, it appears that it involved 15 people.

Community Orders

There were also community orders issued and there were 45 of those.

So that gives you some idea as to the extent on which now there will be other criminal convictions, there can be fines for example also in which a criminal conviction resulted.
